New DnD Module ‘The Town Where Nothing Goes Wrong’ Blends Romantic Comedy and Time-Loop Mystery, Launching Soon on Kickstarter

If you’re a Dungeon Master craving something light-hearted yet intriguing for your game nights, look no further. The latest Dungeons & Dragons module, “The Town Where Nothing Goes Wrong,” is set to launch on Kickstarter on September 16. This unique one-shot adventure comes from the creative mind of Alex Edwards, known for the eldritch horror hit “One For Sorrow,” which also found its start on Kickstarter.

Described as half romantic comedy and half time-loop mystery, “The Town Where Nothing Goes Wrong” offers a refreshing twist on typical role-playing game scenarios. This system-agnostic module can seamlessly integrate with any gaming system you already use, making it a versatile addition to your DM toolkit.

The genesis of the module stemmed from an improvisational session Edwards ran, aiming to give his players a “weird problem to solve” with no predetermined solutions, setting the stage for innovation and creative problem-solving. Inspired by his love for sitcoms and the film “Groundhog Day,” Edwards crafted a narrative where players must unravel the mysteries of a peculiar town caught in a time loop, all while navigating hilarious romantic entanglements and mishaps.

“‘The Town Where Nothing Goes Wrong’ is spun out of a game I ran for my table. I knew I wanted something without combat, as we’d just come out of a big encounter the session before, and I wanted to give my players a weird problem to solve, a problem that I hadn’t got any answers for, a problem with no one right way to solve it.”

“I had been binge watching sitcoms and wanted a fun, romantic comedy vibe, something very low stakes, but also that there was a puzzle for my players to figure out. I had noticed my players role-play best with each other when they are trying to solve something, when they have something to talk about in character. So I needed a reason that they could try, fail and then try again, and I thought of groundhog day and the amount of fun in the core concept of a time loop. So, completely winging it, I ran ‘The Town Where Nothing Ever Goes Wrong’ for my players, and we had a blast, one of our best ever sessions.”

“I found myself going over it in my head, thinking about what I could have done better if I’d had more time to prepare, if I had fleshed out the concept properly. I couldn’t stop thinking about it in fact, which is why I’ve written it down for you.”

This combat-free module is ideal for groups looking for a break from battle-heavy sessions, focusing instead on role-playing and puzzle-solving. Edwards has ensured that the module was developed without any AI involvement.

Kickstarter backers can look forward to a range of pledge rewards and exciting stretch goals, including an original song titled “Roll of the Dice,” composed specifically for a wedding between two TTRPG players.
