Following the success of “Baldur’s Gate 3,” WizKids is set to release “Dungeons & Dragons: Builders of Baldur’s Gate.” The board game’s release will capitalize on the sustained popularity of the Baldur’s Gate series, leveraging the established fan base and the narrative backdrop that Baldur’s Gate 3 revitalized.
“Dungeons & Dragons: Builders of Baldur’s Gate,” is scheduled to hit retail in June 2025. Designed by renowned game designer Matthew Dunstan, this city-building game allows players to assume the roles of family heads in the iconic city of Baldur’s Gate, striving to expand their influence and prestige.
The game sets players against each other as they work to construct new businesses within the city’s nine districts. Players place buildings such as keeps, gates, and watchtowers, each represented by detailed miniatures. These buildings play a critical role, housing influence cubes that represent the players’ control over the city’s various areas.
As the game progresses, players also need to navigate the political landscape of Baldur’s Gate by gaining the favor of the city’s three major factions: the Council of Four, the Flaming Fist, and the Thieves’ Guild. Furthermore, the city faces external threats from monstrous forces attacking its walls and harbor, requiring players to temporarily unite to defend their holdings.
The game is designed for two to four players, recommended for ages 14 and up.
The pre-order phase is now open, though customers are reminded that the game will not ship until the official release date in 2025 and that pre-order release dates are subject to change.
