Starling Games has introduced “Everdell Duo” on Kickstarter, a game variant that caters specifically to solo and two-player formats. This new game allows players to either compete against one another or work cooperatively through a 15-chapter campaign, exploring the familiar Emerald Valley in a new light.
The gameplay mechanics are built on the foundational elements of the original Everdell series, where players gather resources and build their own woodland city. Unique to “Everdell Duo” are elements like variable event goals and a dynamic play area, influenced by the Sun and Moon tokens that players move around the board.
The game is structured to last four seasons, culminating in a scoring phase to determine the winner. In cooperative mode, players collaborate to meet specific goals for each chapter, emphasizing strategic communication and resource management. Players must discuss their strategies and resource needs without revealing specific cards in their hands.
In addition to the main game, the Kickstarter campaign also offers oversized cards for the original Everdell and its expansions. These larger cards aim to enhance the visual and tactile experience by making the text easier to read and the artwork more prominent. They are compatible with the standard game setup but require new, specially designed storage boxes included with the pledge.
As of now, the campaign has garnered significant support, with $205,028 pledged, surpassing its original goal of $5,000. The funding round is scheduled to conclude on September 13. Interested backers can find more details and developmental insights on the Kickstarter page.
