R. Talsorian Games has launched the ‘Shadow Scar Starter Set,’ an introductory box set for its new game and intellectual property, ‘Shadow Scar.’ This initial offering precedes the release of the game’s Core Rulebook, scheduled for unveiling at PAX Unplugged 2024.
The release follows the ‘Shadow Scar – Eyes in the Darkness’ given away on Free RPG Day, which provided early insights into the game’s universe. The ‘Shadow Scar Starter Set’ aims to deliver a comprehensive playing experience with three booklets that cover the world’s lore, the game’s essential rules, and a 50-page adventure titled ‘Mask of the Green Demon.’ The set also includes six customizable characters, themed dice, maps, and tokens designed to enhance gameplay.
Cody Pondsmith, who began conceptualizing ‘Shadow Scar’ early in his career, drew inspiration from various anime and video games to craft this game. The narrative centers on a war among gods that led to the spread of monstrous creatures known as yokai across multiple dimensions. The Shadow Scar Agency, formed to combat this threat, uses ancient Ninjutsu arts across the multiverse.
The ‘Shadow Scar Starter Set’ is available in both digital and physical formats, priced at $15 and $30 respectively. It can be purchased via DriveThruRPG or directly from the R. Talsorian Games store.
Looking ahead, R. Talsorian Games has indicated that the forthcoming Core Rulebook will introduce the ‘Mosaic System,’ a new game mechanism.
