This week’s showbiz news round-up special Horror Week edition takes a look at some of the horror movie news that has hit the wire.  ICv2 starts its Horror Week coverage by discussing the horror genre in the medium where it is most prevalent: on the silver screen! This week’s showbiz news round-up takes a look at some of the horror movie news that has hit the wire in the lead-up to the fall box office season.  And with that, let’s get to the round-up!

Potentially the biggest horror movie coming in Fall 2024 is Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (see “‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’“).  According to The Hollywood Reporter, this horror comedy is already tracking to open as high as $80 million at the North American box, although Warner Bros. has a more conservative estimate at $65-$75 million.  Hobby retail is also gearing for this mega horror release, as publishers are rolling out new products revolving around the movie (see “DC’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Variant Covers” and also, “New ‘Dragon Shield’ Sleeves“).

20th Century Studios’ Alien: Romulus (see “‘Alien: Romulus’ Trailer“) opened this weekend at $41.5 million domestic and $108.2 million worldwide, according to VarietyDeadpool & Wolverine was #2 with $29 million and now sits at $545.8 million in North America and $1.14 billion worldwide.

Shaun of the Dead is heading back to theaters for a 20th anniversary limited release at AMC theaters on August 29, 2024.  This tongue-in-cheek zombie cult classic essentially brought both Simon Pegg, of Star Trek and The Boys fame, and Nick Frost into the Hollywood spotlight. The movie did well for a limited release at the box office in 2004 (see “’Shark Tale’ #1 Again“), and was picked up for a comic miniseries by IDW Publishing (see “‘Shaun of the Dead’ Mini-Series“).

Six Studios has picked up Garth Ennis’ Crossed script, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Crossed was a 2008 comic series, published by Avatar Press, that told the story of a pandemic-ridden world where a mystery cross-shaped rash turns people into homicidal maniacs.  This IP had previously been developed for the big screen in 2010 (see “The ‘Kick-Ass’ Model“).

Universal Pictures recently released a trailer for Nosferatu (see below).  Robert Egger’s film has been in the works since 2015 (see “‘Nosferatu’ Remake“), and stars Emma Corbin, Bill Skarsgard, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp.  It will hit theaters on Christmas Day 2024.

In non-horror-related showbiz news, Amazon Prime released a trailer for LotR: The Rings of Power Season 2 (see below), which begins streaming on August 29, 2024.

And finally, Sony Pictures has released a trailer for Kraven the Hunter (see below).  This movie heads to theaters on December 13, 2024 (see “Best in Shows — 2024“).
