The newest title in Dark Horse Comics’ recently announced licensing deal with Marvel Comics is The Marvel Comics Covers of Jack Kirby, a series of hardcover volumes that will collect all of Kirby’s Marvel covers together with commentary on the art and design aspects of each one. The first volume will span the years 1961-1964, including covers for The Fantastic Four, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, Journey into Mystery, Strange Tales, Tales to Astonish, and The X-Men. Printed in an oversized 8.375” x 12.75” format, the 184-page The Marvel Comics Covers of Jack Kirby Vol. 1 will be available in the book channel on January 7, 2025, and in comic shops on January 8, with an MSRP of $49.99.
“40 years into his career, Kirby once again redefined the comics medium and his iconic covers helped usher in the Marvel age of comics,” said co-designer and co-editor Vincent Iadevaia in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Volume 1 teleports us back to the early days at Marvel Comics and explores his early work on these beloved characters.”
This is the second project to be published under the new collaboration between Dark Horse and Marvel (see “Dark Horse and Marvel Sign Licensing Agreement“); the first, The Art of the Amazing Spider-Man, is due out in October 2024.
