The Ewoks Are Back in New Miniseries Set After ‘Return of the Jedi’

The Ewoks are back and they’re in trouble again in a new miniseries coming from Marvel in October. Star Wars: Ewoks, by writer Steve Orlando and artists Álvaro López and Laura Braga, is set is set immediately following Return of the Jedi, in which the pint-sized warriors played a key role in the Battle of Endor, and chronicles a new conflict with a team of Imperial scavengers and bounty hunters. The four-issue miniseries will launch on October 9, 2024, with a main cover by Pete Woods, variant by David Lopez, and an action figure variant by John Tyler Christopher.

The comic coincides with the 40th anniversary of The Ewok Adventure, the Ewoks’ first story outside the Star Wars films, which was produced first as an animated TV movie and then adapted into comics. A second animated film and a cartoon television series followed. In April 2023 Marvel released the one-shot Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – Ewoks, which was one of the top 50 comics that month (see “Top 50 Comics – April 2023“).

“When I was young, the Ewoks got me in the door,” Orlando said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Wicket was my hero, a young hero like me (like I was back then) going on adventures with Princess Leia herself! Now, as an adult, it’s an honor to challenge Wicket and bring all-new Ewoks to Bright Tree Village—but not just that! There’s a lot more to Endor that we’ll be seeing for the first time since the Ewoks animated series—this is a powerful world, a powerful ecosystem, and we’ll be exploring it like never before! Join us for a caper like no other as Wicket races against time to outwit a dangerous crew of Imperial Thieves and save the Forest Moon!”

Marvel announced in June that it will be bringing two long-running Star Wars series to an end (see “Marvel to Close Out Two ‘Star Wars’ Series with 50-Page Finales“).
