‘Andromeda’s Edge’ Nears

The release date for Andromeda’s Edge, coming from Cardboard Academy and Lucky Duck Games, has been set for the fourth quarter following a premier at the Spiel fair in Essen, Germany.

Announced in 2022 (see “Lucky Duck Will Launch ‘Andromeda’s Edge’ Onto Gamefound”), Andromeda’s Edge is a science fiction-themed worker placement style game created by Luke and Maximus Laurie (Dwellings of Eldervale, The Manhattan Project:  Energy Empire).  The players are competing deep-space explorers intent on uncovering the secrets of the Andromeda Galaxy and the lost precursor civilization.  The factions they control are asymmetrical, each with its own advantages.  The players deploy their spaceships, which act as “workers,” to develop their strategy.  Spaceships can be upgraded to gain unique special abilities.  Meanwhile, the players also expand and improve their individual space station by attaching new modules in a tableau engine-building mechanic.

Andromeda’s Edge features artwork by Sergio Chaves (Dwellings of Eldervale, Rise of Tribes).  The game comes with 3 game boards, 4 player mats, 25 region tiles, 285 tokens, 36 leader cubes, 36 plastic spaceships, 16 raider standees with bases, 43 tiles, 245 cards, 24 markers, and 24 dice.  It is intended for 1 to 5 players, ages 14 and up, and takes about 40 minutes per player to play.

The crowd-funding campaign for Andromeda’s Edge attracted 10,138 backers to pledge $1,645,205 in support (an average of $162.28 per backer).  Backer fulfillment is planned for September with release into the trade to follow.

Lucky Duck is also planning to release Tranquility:  The Ascent this autumn (see “Lucky Duck Games Unveils ‘Tranquility’ Sequel”).
