More Hollywood news has rolled in, and it’s time for round-up!

Pixar’s Inside Out 2 has set a record for the second weekend of an animated film, grossing $100 million at the North American box office, according to Variety.  That brings the film’s gross to date to $355 million domestic and $724 million worldwide.  The film passed Dune: Part II to become the biggest movie of 2024 in only its second weekend in theaters.

Max released a new trailer for The Penguin (see below), which is set to start streaming in September (see “‘The Penguin’ Deets“), starring Colin Farrell and picking up after the events at the end of The Batman movie.

Cartoon Network Studios announced that it has greenlit new Adventure Time and Regular Show series and put two additional Adventure Time projects into development, at the recent Annecy International Animation Film Festival.  Adventure Time: Side Quests is set in the early days, when Finn was just a kid fighting monsters and going on epic quests with his best buddy Jake, re-connecting with stand-out side characters from the original series. The characters were last seen in four one-hour specials on HBO Max (see “’Adventure Time’“).  No details were provided on the new The Regular Show series other than the involvement of original series creator J.G. Quintel (see “’Regular Show’ Ending“).  The studio has put Adventure Time: Heyo, a new pre-school series, and The Adventure Time Movie, a full feature with Rebecca Sugar, Patrick McHale, and Adam Muto as the creative team, into development.

Actor Donald Sutherland passed away on June 20, 2024 at the age of 88.  Sutherland had an extensive acting career with numerous roles in TV and movies.  He is best remembered from his roles as President Snow from The Hunger Games movies (see “‘The Hunger Games’ Simply Boffo!“), in The Dirty Dozen, and in M*A*S*H.  His death was made public via a post on X (formerly Twitter) from his equally famous son, Kiefer Sutherland (see below).

Amazon Prime Video revealed key casting for the voice cast for Batman: Caped Crusader, according to Deadline.  The cast includes Hamish Linklater as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Christina Ricci as Catwoman/Selina Kyle, Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn/Dr. Harleen Quinzel, and Diedrich Bader as Harvey Dent/Two-Face.  The first 10 episodes of this series will drop on August 1, 2024 (see “‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ News“).

Amazon Prime Video cast Euphoria star Hunter Schafer in Blade Runner 2099, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  She will co-star alongside Michelle Yeoh in this series, which is set 50 years after the 2017 sequel (see “‘Blade Runner 2099’ TV Series“).

Amazon MGM Studios is developing a sequel to Spaceballs, according to Variety. Spaceballs was Mel Brooks’ classic parody of Star Wars released back in 1987, then later adapted into an animated series (see “DVD Round-Up“). The sequel will be produced by Mel Brooks and Josh Gad.  Gad will also star in and co-write in the movie alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.
