Osprey Games recently revealed an expansion to their Stargrave series, introducing “Dead or Alive,” a supplement designed by Joseph A. McCullough. This new release focuses on solo bounty hunting in the game’s universe, where players command a crew to track down fugitives.
“Dead or Alive” enables players to engage in various missions with motives ranging from financial gain to seeking justice. Originally developed during the global lockdowns, this supplement was first conceived as a response to the limited options for solo play during that period.
Joseph McCullough detailed the evolution of “Dead or Alive,” which began as a brief 5,000-word booklet that introduced solo gameplay rules. This booklet was initially available as a free PDF to coincide with the launch of the Stargrave rulebook. The positive reception to the solo scenarios demonstrated a clear interest among players for more independent gaming options.
The expanded version of “Dead or Alive” includes a broader array of game scenarios, featuring 20 different ‘marks’ or bounties, 20 settings, and 20 complications, allowing for over 8,000 unique combinations. This expansion provides a substantial increase in content and game possibilities, catering to various player preferences and enhancing the depth of gameplay.
The supplement also appeals to competitive players, offering challenging environments and encounters. These settings are designed to be mini-scenarios that add complexity and variety to the gameplay, enriching the overall experience.
“Stargrave: Dead or Alive” is scheduled for release on June 27th in the UK and July 23rd in the US.
