Disney Lorcana fans have a new reason to visit their local hobby stores on August 9 and mass retailers on August 23, as the trading card game launches its fifth set, “Shimmering Skies.” This expansion introduces new characters, mechanics, and cards, enriching the gaming experience for both new and returning players.
The set prominently features characters from Wreck-It Ralph, including Ralph himself and Vanellope von Schweetz, who are introduced to the game for the first time. The card for Vanellope, titled “Random Roster Racer,” provides players with the ability to rush, potentially altering the pace of gameplay. Other familiar characters such as Elsa and Donald Duck will also appear with new cards, each bringing unique abilities that contribute to the game’s strategic depth.
“Shimmering Skies” not only adds new characters but also integrates new gameplay elements and locations, such as the Bad-Anon card, which is geared towards enhancing villain-based strategies.
In addition to new gameplay features, the expansion also includes themed accessories like card sleeves and playmats that feature artwork from previous sets. Notably, the set offers a special promotional card of Prince John, Gold Lover, as part of a cross-promotion with Disney Villainous. This card is exclusive to specific starter sets and is designed to complement item-centric deck strategies.
The narrative of “Shimmering Skies” continues from the aftermath of Ursula’s defeat, setting a festive tone across the game’s universe. This storyline introduces a new mystery, promising to engage players throughout the upcoming year.
