Graphix to Publish New ‘Magic Pickle’ Graphic Novel by Scott Morse

Scholastic has announced it will publish Magic Pickle and the Roots of Doom, by Scott Morse, under its Graphix imprint. The full-color graphic novel, rated for ages 8-12, will go on sale on August 6, 2024, as a hardcover with an MSRP of $24.99 and a paperback with an MSRP of $12.99.

The Magic Pickle is a superhero of sorts who fights the evil tuber Square Root. Morse’s first Magic Pickle book was published by Oni in 2001 as single-issue comics and 2002 as a graphic novel. Graphix picked up the series (see “Scholastic’s Skein of Graphic Novels”) and published five Magic Pickle books in 2008-09, and they also published his 2019 Dugout: The Zombie Steals Home (see “Scholastic Unveils Summer 2019 Catalog”). Morse won a 2005 Eisner Award for Plastic Man (with Kyle Baker), and his 2008 graphic novel Tiger!Tiger!Tiger (see “‘Tiger!Tiger!Tiger!’”) was nominated for an Eisner as well.

In addition to creating comics, Morse is an animator: He is a Story Supervisor at Pixar, where he has worked on Ratatouille and Wall*E, as well as the Cars franchise, and he has also worked for Cartoon Network, Disney, and Nickelodeon.
