Modiphius Entertainment is introducing a new project, “Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics,” slated for a Kickstarter launch at the end of May 2024. This game combines elements of horror-themed adventure with wargaming, set against a backdrop of ancient Rome where players battle avatars of the Outer Gods.
The game is designed for solo and cooperative play, incorporating both traditional tabletop wargaming mechanics and role-playing elements. Players may use their own 28mm scale models or opt for Modiphius’ specially produced Roman and Mythos creature figures in resin. Additionally, 3D-printable STL files will be available, including large-scale models such as the Star Spawn of Cthulhu.
Creators Chris Birch and James Hewitt have developed the Mendacious System to manage gameplay, focusing on strategic combat and tactical planning. This system is intended to offer a challenging and engaging experience as players confront the threats posed by Mythos forces.
“Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics” unfolds in turns, each comprising three phases: unit activation, enemy AI actions, and recovery. This structure aims to simulate the tactical exchanges typical of ancient warfare, enhanced by strategic planning necessary to combat the Mythos threat.
As the Kickstarter campaign progresses, Modiphius plans to reveal additional miniatures and game features through stretch goals. Interested individuals are encouraged to join the mailing list for updates and to participate in the campaign once it launches.
