Dark Horse is kicking off a new series of Minecraft original graphic novels with Minecraft: Heart of Cobblestone, Vol. 1, by writer Andrew Clemson and artist Jeremy Lawson. The 88-page graphic novel follows the adventures of Farmer Cobb as he builds a sky-high tower to get away from his annoying neighbors and joins a community of hermits that may be even worse. The first volume is slated for release on October 15, 2024, in bookstores and October 16, 2024, in comic shops, with an MSRP of $10.99. The new series launches six months ahead of the Minecraft movie, which is set for April 2025 release (see “Warners Shuffles Dates”).
Clements is the writer of Damsel in D.I.S.T.R.E.S.S. and Star Bastard, both published by Scout Comics. Lawson is an artist whose credits include BOOM! Studios’ Regular Show and The Amazing World of Gumball, Titan’s Astroneer (another video game tie-in), and a contribution to the Eisner Award-winning anthology You Died; he was also a colorist for DC’s Teen Titans Go!, Prez, and Batman: Beyond Rebirth, as well as a number of their young adult graphic novels (see “Review: Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale’ TP”).
Dark Horse has released several graphic novel series by different creators since kicking off its Minecraft program in 2019 (see “Dark Horse Announces Two ‘Minecraft’ Boxed Sets and New OGN”), and Minecraft comics were one of the top kids’ comics franchises in Spring 2020 (see “Top Kids Graphic Novel Franchises – Spring 2020”).
