Monte Cook Games has announced their upcoming release, “It’s Only Magic,” a supplement for integrating magical elements into modern settings within tabletop RPGs. Authored by Dominique Dickey, Sean K. Reynolds, and Shanna Germain, this 224-page book is designed to blend contemporary elements with magical intrigue and is set to be released in late June.
Pre-orders are available for “It’s Only Magic,” which is priced at $49.99 for the hardcover edition and $18.99 for the PDF. Those who pre-order can expect their copies to ship slightly ahead of the official street date, offering early access to the new content.
The book offers a comprehensive guide for players and game masters looking to add a magical twist to their modern RPG campaigns. It provides advice on creating engaging adventures that mix the supernatural with everyday life and introduces new character options that allow for unique roles such as magical hackers and spell-casting gun wizards. The publication also expands the scope of gameplay with optional magic rules that vary from crafting magical items to finding familiars.
Included in “It’s Only Magic” are detailed settings like The Axial, a cozy coffee-shop-themed magical neighborhood, and New Grimsby, a secondary, bonus campaign setting created by Eric Campbell and Jody Houser. These can serve as standalone environments or be integrated into larger campaigns.
Moreover, the book contains three complete adventures that can be adapted to any game where modern magic is a theme, enriching the gaming experience with flexible, ready-to-use content.
“It’s Only Magic” requires the Cypher System Rulebook for play, ensuring it integrates smoothly into existing gameplay while offering new ways to engage with the magical elements of the modern world.
