Manhwa, a thick ROM omnibus, and multiple volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen all made the list of the Top 20 best-selling Author, Manga, and Superhero graphic novels, based on Circana (formerly NPD) BookScan data for January 2024 (12/31/23 – 2/3/24) provided to ICv2.
Manhwa dominate the Author chart, with all eight volumes of Solo Leveling as well as the first volumes of two K-pop tie-ins, Dark Moon: The Blood Altar and 7Fates: Chakho, in which characters are based on the members of the bands Enhypen and BTS, respectively. Vol. 1 of Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint puts manhwa into the majority in this Top 20. Both Dark Moon and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint are on the chart for a second month. Solo Leveling sales got a big boost from the release of the Solo Leveling anime on Crunchyroll.
Vol. 11 of Saga is also on the chart for a second month, and Book Five of Lore Olympus makes the top 20 for a fourth. Vol. 1 of Scott Pilgrim appears in 20th place, almost 20 years after its original release, probably with a boost from the Netflix series (see “‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’ Trailer”).

The Manga chart belongs to VIZ Media, as usual, with nine volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen and assorted volumes of other series, with Dark Horse Comics’ deluxe edition of Berserk the sole non-VIZ title. As noted previously, the Jujutsu Kaisen anime ended with Vol. 16 of the manga, which seems to have given that and subsequent volumes a boost (see “January 2024 Circana BookScan”).

There are two new titles on the superhero chart, although arguably only one of them is “new”: Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White & Red Treasury Edition, at number 16. The other is Marvel Comics’ ROM omnibus (see “Marvel to Publish ‘ROM’ Omnibus”) at number 12.

January 2024 3 Circana – Top 20 Author, Manga, and Superhero Graphic Novels with Actual Sales
Circana collects weekly point-of-sale data on print books from over 16,000 locations including e-tailers, chains, mass merchandisers, independent bookstores, and more. Circana covers approximately 85% of the U.S. trade print book market. The ranks on this chart are based on piece sales. Some publishers classify titles that are primarily text, or art books, as graphic novels; we’ve removed those titles from the ranking above.
For past Top 20 Graphic Novel lists, see the “Top 20 GN Index.”
