R.I.P. Paul Neary

British comic artist, writer, and editor Paul Neary passed away on February 10, 2024 after a long illness, according to a eulogy from fellow artist and frequent collaborator Alan Davis, shared by former DC Comics publisher Paul Levitz.  Neary was 74.

His first comics work was for Warren’s Eerie magazine in the 1970s, but he soon began working for Marvel UK, where he formed an association with Davis, whose pencils he frequently inked, including on runs in Detective Comics for DC Comics, and Excalibur for Marvel Comics.   Neary also penciled, most notably on a three-year run on Captain America in the 1980s.  Later in his career, he inked Bryan Hitch pencils for TheUltimates, Fantastic Four, and The Authority.

Neary also spent time at Marvel UK, including stints as Editor-in-Chief (early 1980s), when he revived Captain Britain, and Art Director (1990-1993), supervising the creation of a raft of American-sized comics for the U.S. market.

Our condolences to family and friends.
