Shonen manga dominates the list of the Top 20 Adult graphic novels in the book channel, based on Circana (formerly NPD) BookScan data for December 2023 (11/26/23 – 12/30/23) provided to ICv2, with both the first and the most recent volume of several series showing up on the chart.
Most of the manga on the chart are VIZ Shonen Jump titles getting a boost from anime. The most recent two volumes of Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen are on the chart, along with the first volumes of each, and the Chainsaw Man box set that was number 20 on the October chart makes a return appearance at number 12. A similar pattern appears with My Hero Academia, Spy x Family, and One Piece, with the first and most recent volumes showing up on the chart.
Bill Watterson and John Kascht’s The Mysteries stays on the chart for a third month, and that and two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles titles are the only non-manga graphic novels on the list.
After three months on the chart, Disney Manga: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas – The Battle for the Pumpkin King has finally slipped out of the Top 20.
