Niantic confirms the new issue where Trainers trying to sign in to Pokémon GO see a ‘failed to authenticate’ or a maintenance message and offers two work-arounds for this issue

Niantic has updated the official Known Issues support page for Pokémon GO. Read on below to learn more:

Trainers see an error message when trying to sign in to Pokémon GO

Issue Description: Trainers trying to sign in to Pokémon GO see a ‘failed to authenticate’ or a maintenance message.

Issues Status:  Investigating. There are two work-arounds for this issue:

  1. Turn off Wi-Fi to sign in, once you are signed in you can reconnect to Wi-Fi and play normally.
  2. If you prefer to stay on Wi-Fi during the sign in process, setting your phone to automatic time may resolve this issue.
