Niantic is continuing to announce new events and content for Pokémon GO. Read on below to learn more:
How to use Party Play
Once you and your Party have started your Party Play session, there are a number of things that you can do together.
Party Challenges
When you first begin your Party Play session, you have the opportunity to select from a number of predetermined Party Challenges, each of which presents a different way for you and your Party to explore your surroundings as you work towards completing them. Each Party Challenge also yields a different set of rewards.
Some of these challenges may include spinning PokéStops or Gyms or catching a certain number of Pokémon. You can check on the progress of your Party Challenge at any time by either tapping on the Party Play button that appears below your Party’s Trainer avatar images along the top of the Map View. You can also view your Challenge Progress by opening the Party tab.
When a Party Challenge is completed, the host will see a pop-up prompting them to choose another one.
Challenge Raid Battles
While you’re in a Party Play session, you and the other Trainers in your Party can challenge a Raid Boss together. Enter a Raid Battle the same way that you otherwise would.
Other Trainers who are not part of your Party may also join the same Raid Battle, however, the more members of your Party that are part of a Raid Battle, the more contributions you will receive to your Party Power.
The Party Power is a Raid bonus that fills up as members of your Party attack the Raid Boss. Once the Party Power bonus is full, your next Charge Attack will receive a special boost. You can see the Party Power button and your progress towards achieving the bonus in the bottom left corner of your Raid Battle.
Note that the Party Power bonus is applied to a Trainer and not to their active Pokémon, so if a Pokémon in your party faints, it will be applied to the next Pokémon.
Seeing your Party’s progress and achievements
While you and your Party are making progress towards your Party Challenge, you can see both your individual contributions as well as the contributions of the other members of your Party by tapping on the Party Tab.
You will also see a summary of your contributions and progress towards completing your Party Challenge if you leave the Party, are the last member of your Party, or if your Party session timer expires.

Hosting a Party
A Party is composed of a host and between 1 – 3 other Trainers. Both the host and the Party participants must be physically near one another.
To host a Party:
-
In Map View, tap on your Trainer Profile.
-
Tap the Party tab in the top right.
-
Tap the Create button on the Party Play screen to create a Party Play lobby.
Note that Trainers logging in using kids accounts via Pokémon Trainer Club or Niantic Kids are not able to host a Party.
Once you have created a lobby, other Trainers will have up to 15 minutes to either scan the QR Code or enter the Party Code to join the Party. As other Trainers join, you will see their Trainer profile pictures appear on your screen.
Once you have at least 1 other Trainer in your Party, tap the Start button to begin Party Play and choose a Party Challenge, each presenting a different way for you and your Party to explore your surroundings as you work towards completing them. Different Party Challenges also yield a different set of rewards.
After you tap Start, the Trainer avatars for other members of your Party will appear on your Map View, and their profiles will appear along the top of your screen.
Make sure that you and the other members of your Party stay near one another in the real world. If another Trainer gets too far away from the host, they will see a warning message and could be removed from the Party.
Your Party can last up to 1 hour, or until you end your Party Play session. You will receive a 10 minute warning as you approach the 1 hour limit.
To end a Party:
-
In Map View, tap on your Trainer Profile.
-
Tap the Party tab in the top right.
-
Scroll to the bottom and tap the Leave Party button.
If you are leaving the Party but others are still playing, you will need to select another host. If the Party will have less than 2 Trainers after you leave, the Party will be disbanded.
You will see a summary screen recapping both your individual contributions as well as your Party’s achievements during the Party Play session, including a breakdown of each Trainer’s contributions to the Party.

Party Play Safety & Settings
While we encourage all Trainers to abide by our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, there are a number of additional settings that will allow you to customize your Party Play experience according to your comfort level and preferred play style.
What will other Trainers see about me?
When you are joining a Party, the host and other members of your Party will see your Trainer nickname and Trainer Avatar. No other trainers will be able to see your approximate real-time location other than those in your Party.
Once your Party Play session has begun, your Trainer avatar will appear on your Party’s Map View in an approximation of your actual location in the real world. To disable this feature:
-
In Map View, tap the Main Menu
-
At the top right, tap Settings
-
Tap General
-
Scroll to the Party Play section and tap Share Location with Party to toggle this feature on or off.
During your Party Play session, the other members of your Party will be able to see your contributions towards the Party Challenge, as well as other gameplay metrics, from the Party Tab. You will stop sharing your approximate actual location when the Party ends.
Kids Accounts and Party Play
Trainers logging in using kids’ accounts via Pokémon Trainer Club or Niantic Kids are able to participate in Party Play, however their parent or guardian must first enable this feature by granting appropriate permissions in their Parent Portal.
Read this article to learn more about child accounts and how to grant permissions.
If the necessary parent permissions are not enabled via the Parent Portal, these Trainers will not be able to see the Party tab at all. Regardless of the parent permissions, kids’ accounts will never appear on their Party’s Map View, nor will they be able to see other Trainers on their own Map View.
In order for a Trainer logging in using a kids’ account to join a Party, there are additional requirements that must be met:
-
The Party must contain at least 2 other players
-
They cannot be host
-
They must be friends with the host of the Party
-
If the host leaves the Party, the kids’ account will also leave the Party. If this results in only 1 Trainer remaining in the Party, the Party Play session will end.

What is Party Play?
Party Play is a mode of gameplay within Pokémon GO that will allow you to team up with other Trainers to accomplish various tasks, earn special bonuses and receive rewards. A Party is composed of between two to four Trainers, including you.
To participate in Party Play, you and the other members of your Party must be physically near one another both to join or host a party and to be a part of a Party. If you or one of the members of your Party is too far away, they will be removed from the Party or be unable to join.
While you are part of a Party, the Trainer avatars of your Party members will appear on your Map View. They will also be able to see your Trainer avatar on their Map View as well. As you move through the real world, your location will be updated on their devices, and you will see their location change as they move.
Note that Trainers logging in using kids accounts via Pokémon Trainer Club or Niantic Kids, their Trainer avatar will not appear on others’ Map View, nor will they see other Trainers on their own Map View.
Learn more about how you can control your Party Play experience.
Party Play is available for Trainers that are Level 15 or higher. For Trainers logging in using kids accounts via Pokémon Trainer Club or Niantic Kids, parents or guardians may opt into enabling this feature by granting appropriate permissions. Read this article to learn more about child accounts and how to grant permissions.

Joining a Party
After a host has created the Party Play lobby, you will have 15 minutes to join the Party. If you are physically near the host and want to join their Party, there are two ways to do so–by scanning the Party Play QR Code or the numerical Party Code.
To join a Party:
-
In Map View, tap on your Trainer Profile.
-
Tap the Party tab in the top right.
-
Tap the Join a Party button.
-
Use your device’s camera to scan the host’s QR code or tap the Party Code tab and enter the host’s 9-digit Party Code.
-
Both the QR code and the Party Code can be found on the host’s Party Play Lobby screen.
-
-
Tap the Join Party button to join the host’s Party Play Lobby.
Note that a maximum of 4 Trainers, including the host, can be in any Party. If you try to join the Party Play Lobby and this limit has been reached, you will see an error message indicating that the Party is full.
Note that Trainers logging in using kids’ accounts via Pokémon Trainer Club or Niantic Kids can only join a Party if they are friends with the host of the Party and there are at least 2 other Trainers in the party. Learn more about kids’ accounts and Party Play.
The host is able to start Party Play and select a Party Challenge once at least two other Trainers have joined the Party. Once they have started, the Trainer avatars for other members of your Party will appear on your Map View, and their profiles will appear along the top of your screen.
After Party Play has started, make sure to stay near the host as you explore the real world. If you get too far away from the host, you will see a warning message and could be removed from the Party.
While you are in the Party, you can tap on the Party Play button below the Trainer icons along the top of your screen to see your Party’s progress against the Party Challenge. You can also see this information on the Party tab.
Your Party can last up to 1 hour, or until you end your Party Play session. You will receive a 10 minute warning as you approach the time limit.
To leave a Party:
-
In Map View, tap on your Trainer Profile.
-
Tap the Party tab in the top right.
-
Scroll to the bottom and tap the Leave Party button.
After you leave a Party, the other Trainers will see a message indicating that you’ve left. If you leave a Party accidentally, you can rejoin the Party the same way you did initially, by scanning the QR Code or entering the Party Code.
Once your Party Play session has ended, or if you leave the party, you will see a summary screen recapping your and your Party’s achievements during the Party Play session, including a breakdown of each Trainer’s contributions to the Party. Note that if you leave a Party early, you will not receive the Party Challenge rewards.

Reporting Inappropriate Behavior in Party Play
We encourage all Trainers to abide by the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service whenever playing Pokémon GO, but especially while participating in Party Play.
However, if the host or a member of your Party behaves inappropriately, you can submit a report to Niantic for review by reaching out to the Pokémon GO support team. Note that, in order to take action on your report, you will need to provide the Trainer Nickname of the Trainer in question.
Once we receive your report, we will review the situation and take the appropriate action, including but not limited to issuing strikes against their account.

Everything’s more fun with friends, including adventures in Pokémon GO.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’d be like to swagger over to a Pokémon GO Gym with your besties at your side, then Pokémon GO’s Party Play is the adventure you’ve been waiting for. Launching October 17, 2023, Party Play lets you form or join a party with up to three of your friends to take on challenges and raids as a group. While part of a party, Trainers can see their friends’ avatars on their in-game map. And when battling in a raid together, Trainers can use Party Power to double the damage of their Charged Attacks. Party Challenges offer the group the chance to take on tasks—which can be focused on activities such as spinning PokéStops, battling in raids, and catching Pokémon—to earn awesome rewards. And when the fun is over, the party will receive a personalized visual recap of their accomplishments to share with the world.
