Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition Starter Box Exceeds Kickstarter Goal, Adds New Dimensions to 5E Gameplay

The Kickstarter campaign for the Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition Starter Box has surpassed its initial funding goal of $6,193, currently standing at $33,009. With 462 backers and 24 days left in the campaign, the project has generated considerable attention within the tabletop RPG community.

What’s Inside the Box?

The Starter Box is intended as an extension to the existing 5E rulebook, offering a 66-page guide that introduces new elements to the game. It includes a three-part adventure series, 5 pre-generated characters, 91 cardboard tokens for in-game use, and 5 poster maps. The box is designed for those familiar with 5E rules, offering enhancements rather than a complete overhaul.

Background on Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition

This isn’t the first successful crowdfunding effort for Level Up; a Kickstarter campaign for the core ruleset raised close to a million dollars in 2021. The Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition game was launched following two years of public playtesting and surveys. It has been featured in mainstream outlets such as Kotaku and Polygon.

Rulebook Highlights

The rulebook in the Starter Box introduces new conditions like ‘Doomed,’ ‘Bloodied,’ and ‘Rattled,’ along with tracked conditions such as ‘Fatigue’ and ‘Strife.’ It also introduces new combat maneuvers and environmental factors, labeled as ‘world actions,’ which add more layers to the game dynamics.

Included Adventures

The box contains an adventure path set in the highland region of Albia. It comprises three short adventures: Clan Erin’s Moot, Valley of Misfortune, and Crypt Erin. Each of these is designed for a single gaming session and includes respective poster maps and monster tokens.

Pre-Generated Characters

The box offers five pre-generated characters at the 4th level, each designed to illustrate the new features and mechanics introduced in Level Up. The characters range in heritage and culture, offering a mix of options for players.

The Kickstarter campaign is scheduled to conclude on October 13, leaving time for more backers to join.
