For this edition of FanArt Friday, we’re honored to display the art of the marvelous Magda Swinya, also known as Apollonia Galleria.
She specializes in acrylic painting and is very famous for her Van Gogh-inspired artworks.
For Magda, art is about expressing herself. And, especially, her authenticity: “Being authentic is very important to me, and by being creative, my mind has an outlet to roam free, unconstrained by rules and expectations,” she explained.
Pokémon has been with our featured artist since she was a child. She remembers coming home from school to watch the Pokémon Anime on TV, and how that was the highlight of her day.
“The nostalgia is really strong for me, I believe, and for a lot of my followers too.”
“I feel blessed. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to combine Pokémon and my passion for painting! I love having endless possibilities to match different Pokémon with various backgrounds. I go from painting the cutest Eevee napping on fluffy clouds to an epic scene of fierce Gyarados encountering Lugia in a stormy ocean. It’s fun!”
Magda shared that her Van Gogh-inspired painting started because one of her costumers asked her for a classical-inspired-painting with Psyduck, and she chose one of his paintings as an inspiration.
“I chose ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent van Gogh and made the Psyducks sleep on clouds. I couldn’t resist adding a Jigglypuff lulling them to sleep! And from then on, I loved the painting so much that I wanted to create more in that art style.”
It made sense for Magda to choose Van Gogh’s art as an inspiration for her Psyduck painting because he was the only artist she knew while growing up. She recalled watching a movie about him with her mom and the way his story stayed and resonated with her.
Her favorite Van Gogh painting is, unmistakably, “Starry Night,” and she loves it for two reasons: “First, the beautiful swirls in the sky with their unique brushstrokes that make the painting so hypnotizing. I can look at it for hours. Second, what fascinates me is how the scene he painted so uniquely was his view from a hospital window! To be able to see through his eyes and how he viewed the world more than a century ago gives me chills to this day!”
Speaking of favorites, Shiny Umbreon has the honor of being her favorite Pokémon. “Its glow works wonderfully with my galaxy art style and can elevate any painting!”
