Two Retailers Report Comic Thefts at FanExpo Chicago

Two retailers have reported that comics were stolen from their tables at FanExpo Chicago, which took place in Rosemont, IL, on August 10-13, 2023.

On August 12, Reece’s Rare Comics posted on Facebook that a copy of Hulk #1 was stolen from their wall at FanExpo. The comic was in a slab with a CBCS grade of 1.8 (CBCS Cert: 22-12EE6CE-001), but the comic may have been cracked out of the slab. It has a penciled “3/6” in the U on the cover and is signed by Stan Lee on the interior.

After hearing about that theft, another retailer, Terry O’Neill of Terry’s Old School Comics checked his inventory and found a number of Golden Age DC titles missing, according to a report in Scoop. O’Neill believes the theft occurred on August 12 between 12 and 2 p.m. The stolen comics are low grade copies of Action Comics #5, #70, #174-175, #181-182, #189, #194, #200, and #212, and Adventure Comics #62, #126, #146, and #249.

Both retailers have filed reports with the Rosemont Police Department. Anyone with information about the stolen comics can reach out to them at (847) 823-1134.
