AWA has announced a new four-issue series, Red Light, by writer Sarah Cho and artist Priscilla Petraites, that will follow an artificial intelligence sex worker whose attempt to escape from her high-tech brothel leads her toward the mystery of her creation. The first issue will be released on November 1, 2023, with a main cover by Jeff Dekal and a variant by Frank Cho.
Sarah Cho is a screenwriter whose credits include The Girl from Plainville (Hulu) and Them (Amazon). Petraites was the artist for the synthwave thriller Chariot, also published by AWA, which is being developed by Warner Brothers (see “‘Chariot’ Movie Rights Acquired”).
“I knew I wanted to write something in the erotic thriller space and focus on a protagonist we haven’t really seen before — the most unlikely hero in a sense,” Sarah Cho said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “I’ve always been a writer who explored the interiorities of unexpected protagonists, and I knew the themes of female agency and the importance of empathy were crucial for telling this story right. Working with AWA has been such a good fit for Red Light because they don’t shy away from edgier topics and are all in for unique and creative ideas.”
