Sharon Messenger’s best-selling middle-grade fantasy novel series Keeper of the Lost Cities is being adapted into graphic novel format. The novels are being adapted by Celina Frenn, with art by Gabriella Chianello, and will be published by Aladdin Books. Vol. 1 of the adaptation, covering the first half of the first novel in the series, will be released on November 7, 2023, as a paperback with an MSRP of $17.99 and a hardcover with an MSRP of $27.99.
The novels follow the adventures of 12-year-old Telepath Sophie Foster, who is forced to leave her family in modern-day San Diego and move to the Lost Cities, a land filled with elves and other supernatural creatures. There she is adopted by an elvin couple and attends an elvin school, but she also gets caught up in the conflict between the rebel organization that originally created her and a group of criminals. In 2021, it was announced that Ben Affleck and his Pearl Street Films production company would adapt the books into a film for Disney.
Another middle-grade graphic adaptation, Tui T. Sutherland’s Wings of Fire, has proven to be a best-seller (see “Top Kids Graphic Novel Franchises – Spring 2023”).
