‘Barbie’ Still Breaking Records; ‘The Boys: Gen V,’ ‘Harley Quinn’ S4, ‘Strange Planet,’ and ‘Young Love’ Trailers: ‘Invincible’ S2 Now Two Chapters

With Comic-Con last week, the showbiz news is still flowing, and we round it up here in a special weekday edition.

Warner Bros. and Mattel’s Barbie movie (see “Trailers for ‘Barbie“) broke a weekend box office record and continued to break records on Monday and Tuesday, according to Deadline.  The weekend take of $162 million was the best domestic opening for a movie directed by a female filmmaker.  And the Monday and Tuesday box office totals ($26 million each) were the best ever Monday and Tuesday grosses for Warner Bros.   As of Tuesday, the domestic total was $214.1 million.  Recently, Gerwig has been attached to a new Chronicles of Narnia movie from Netflix (see “‘Narnia’“).

Amazon Prime Video also released a teaser trailer for The Boys: Gen V spinoff series (see below).  This series was announced back in August 2022, and stars Lizzie Broadway, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas and Marco Pigossi (see “Spinoff News“).  It begins streaming on September 29, 2023.

Amazon Prime Video has split the second season of Invincible into two chapters, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The first four episodes will be released starting November 3, 2023 and the next four episode will stream sometime in 2024.  Amazon recently released a trailer for S2 of this series (see “‘Invincible’“).

Max revealed a new trailer for Harley Quinn Season 4 (see below).  The new season hits streaming on July 27, 2023. Co-creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker recently left the show after Season 3 (see “‘Harley Quinn’ Co-creators Step Back“).

Apple TV+ released a trailer for the Strange Planet TV series.  The series, created by Dan Harmon of Rick and Morty fame, is based on Nathan W. Pyle’s graphic novel and Instagram comics of the same title (see “Nathan W. Pyle’s ‘Strange Planet’“).  It will begin streaming on August 9, 2023.

Max released a trailer for the animated series Young Love (see below).  This series is based on an award-winning short by Matthew A. Cherry and will be coming soon to HBO Max.
