Cape and Cowl Comics, of Oakland, CA, owned by Eitan Manhoff, is the winner of the 2023 Will Eisner Spirit of Retailing Award. The store has been a finalist for the award multiple times in the past.
The award was announced during the Eisner Awards ceremonies at Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 21, 2023. The award honors a retailer who has supported the medium in both their local community and the larger world of comics.
Cape and Cowl was chosen from a field of six finalists; the other five were Bat City Comics of Bradenton, FL; Blackbird Comics and Coffeehouse in Maitland, FL; Little Shop of Heroes in Dunfermline, Fife, UK; Travelling Man in Newcastle, UK; and Zeppelin Comics in Benicia, CA.
Last year’s winner was Books with Pictures of Portland, OR (see “Will Eisner Spirit of Comics Retailing Award 2022”).
