Marvel has announced five one-shot comics that will be available for the Halloween retailer event it has dubbed “Trick-or-Read.” The comics are intended to be distributed for free to customers at Halloween events, in a manner similar to Halloween ComicFest, which was last held in 2020 (see “Halloween ComicFest Has Collectible Figures“). All five of the Marvel Halloween comics are reprints that were chosen to be good entry points for new readers, including one designed specifically for young children. The five titles are
- Amazing Spider-Man: The Birth of Tombstone #1, reprinting Amazing Spider-Man #3 by Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr.
- Captain Marvel: Higher, Faster, Further #1, reprinting Captain Marvel (2012) #1 by Kelly Sue Deconnick and Dexter Soy
- Moon Knight: Knight of Blood #1, reprinting Moon Knight #18 by Jed MacKay and Federico Sabbatini
- Star Wars: The High Republic – Attack of the Hutts #1, reprinting Star Wars: The High Republic (2021) #5 by Cavan Scott and Ario Anindito. This issue marks the comics debut of Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh, who will appear in The Acolyte, an upcoming Star Wars Original series that will stream on Disney+ in 2024.
- Spidey and His Amazing Friends Halloween Trick-Or-Read 2023 reprints stories featuring Spidey, Ghost-Spider, and Miles Morales from the Marvel Press series My First Comic Reader.
Marvel published four Trick-or-Read comics for Halloween 2022 (see “Preview: ‘Trick-or-Read 2022’ Covers”).
