Anime Expo news has arrived, and showbiz news keeps rolling in. Time for a round-up!
Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elecktra in Deadpool 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She will join Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in the upcoming movie (see “Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’“). Garner played Elecktra in both Daredevil and the Elektra spinoff movie (see “‘Elektra’“).
Crunchyroll announced the acquisition of various titles for streaming. They acquired Black Butler, which will have a new season coming in 2024. They also picked up Goblin Slayer Season 2, which will release in 2023, and I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince So I Can Take My Time Perfecting My Magical Ability, which will launch in April 2024.
Crunchyroll also released a second trailer for Solo Leveling (see below). This title, based on the red hot manga and novel series of the same name (see “Spring 2023“), will hit Crunchyroll next winter.
Toei Animation and Crunchyroll have teamed up to bring almost 1,000 English-dubbed episodes to Crunchyroll’s platform. This was announced after the 1000th English-dubbed episode debuted at Anime Expo, and the episodes started streaming on July 5, 2023. There is also a One Piece live action adaptation coming to Netflix on August 31, 2023 (see “‘One Piece’“).
Netflix also had animation slate announcements for Anime Expo. They announced Pokemon Concierge, which is a stop-motion animated series that follows the main character Haru as she stays at the Pokemon Resort. Additionally, the company revealed a teaser for Pluto (see “‘Pluto’ Anime“), which will begin streaming on October 26, 2023 (see teaser below).
Netflix has attached Greta Gerwig to a new Chronicles of Narnia movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Netflix had acquired the rights to C.S. Lewis’ beloved books in 2018, and it was sent into development (see “‘Chronicles of Narnia’ in Development“). Gerwig would direct the new film, fresh off of the Barbie movie (see “Trailers for ‘Barbie’“).
