Anne Frank’s Diary: The Graphic Adaptation was a best-seller when it was released in October 2018, debuting in the BookScan Top 20 (see “October 2018 BookScan”) and showing up on the charts repeatedly after that. It was also nominated for an Eisner Award and named to the YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens list (see “YALSA Announces Top Ten Graphic Novels for Teens”).
Now writer Ari Folman, who adapted the diary, has teamed up with artist Lena Guberman for an original graphic novel, Where Is Anne Frank?, that tells her full story beyond what was included in the diary. In the graphic novel, Anne’s diary Kitty comes to life, breaks out of her glass case, and goes looking for Anne and her sister Margot, depicting the earlier part of Anne’s life as well as her imprisonment and death and the current refugee crisis in Europe. Pantheon will publish the book as a 160-page hardcover on September 5, 2023, with an MSRP of $25.00.
