‘Good Girls Go to Hell’ and ‘I Don’t Want to Be a Mom’

A coming-of-age story set on the West Bank and a woman’s meditations on childlessness will head up Graphic Mundi’s Fall 2023 catalog, which also includes two new editions of previously published titles.

Both new titles are graphic memoirs of women moving away from their roots.

Good Girls Go to Hell is Tohar Sherman-Friedman’s memoir of growing up as the youngest of seven children in a conservative Jewish family on the West Bank, contrasting her strict upbringing with the conflict around her. The 136-page hardcover, rated for ages 16+, will be released on November 21, 2023, with an MSRP of $29.95.

I Don’t Want to Be a Mom, by Irene Olmo, is a personal memoir of the author’s evolving thoughts on childlessness, from growing up with the unspoken assumption that she would someday have children through the questions that arose as she challenged that assumption, arriving finally at the realization that motherhood simply isn’t for her. The 112-page paperback is scheduled for November 14, 2023, with an MSRP of $24.95.

The two new editions bring graphic novels by the publisher’s earlier incarnations under the Graphic Mundi umbrella.

Vanni is the fictional but carefully researched story of a family of Sri Lankan refugees, by Benjamin Dix and Lindsay Pollock. The original was published in 2019 under the Graphic Medicine imprint. The new edition will be released on October 24, 2023, with a new cover by Pollock and an MSRP of $19.95.

Escaping Wars and Waves, by Olivier Kugler, depicts the lives of Syrian refugees in camps and temporary housing, based on the author’s interviews and photos. The graphic novel was first published in English in 2018 by Penn State University Press, the parent company of Graphic Mundi (see “Graphic Mundi Imprint Launches”), as a hardcover. The 2023 edition will be an 80-page paperback with an MSRP of $18.95, set for release on December 5, 2023.Source: ICv2
