Games Workshop has just released a new Warhammer 40,000 app that fans can download for free. The launch of this innovative tool aims to streamline and enhance player experiences by assisting in the creation of army lists and simplifying in-game rule lookups.
The app is designed to complement the latest edition of Warhammer 40,000, integrating a user-friendly army planner dubbed “Battle Forge”. This feature is set to offer regularly updated datasheets and a concise rules reference section. Battle Forge enables players to formulate armies for three game sizes – Incursion, Strike Force, and Onslaught – corresponding to 1,000, 2,000, and 3,000 points respectively. In a bid to assist less experienced players, Battle Forge will automatically flag any errors in their army composition, such as incorrect loadouts or selections. This innovative tool also facilitates sharing of lists with friends or submission to events ahead of competitions.
The new Warhammer 40,000 app also serves as a handy reference guide, offering instant access to datasheets during gameplay. Upon its launch, the app will include all Index datasheets and the Combat Patrol datasheets. Plans are underway to soon include Imperial Armour units, clearly demarcated to avoid confusion. To unlock the content of a Codex on the app, players need to input a unique code printed in the book, allowing instant access to new detachment rules.
Additionally, users will have access to the Core Rules, a quick rule reference that encompasses key terms, army rules, Enhancements, and Stratagems, thereby creating an almost all-inclusive platform for playing Warhammer 40,000. However, to find a mission, players will still need to refer to the Core Rules, the Crusade rules, or the Chapter Approved Leviathan Deck.
Currently available for iOS and Android devices, the Warhammer 40,000 app will remain free for an introductory period, during which players can familiarize themselves with the app features and plan their initial army lists. After this period, certain features will transition to a paid model. However, the Core Rules and the Combat Patrol datasheets within the app will continue to be available for free.
While the older version of the Warhammer 40,000 app will not be removed immediately, it has been marked as “old” on the App Store and Google Play to prevent confusion. This ‘old’ version will continue to be active for players to access their unlocked content and for those wanting to play a few more games of the previous edition.
