DC will collect the Dead Boy Detectives’ original adventures in an 800-page hardcover omnibus to be released on October 10, 2023. The Netflix series based on the characters (see “‘Dead Boy Detectives’ Moves”) will likely air around the same time, as filming wrapped in April; Neil Gaiman Tweeted at that time that the show will be set in the same universe as The Sandman.
The Dead Boy Detectives Omnibus, part of the Sandman Universe Classics, will include the characters’ first appearance, in The Sandman #25, as well as The Children’s Crusade #1-2, The Sandman Presents: The Dead Boy Detectives #1-4, Dead Boy Detectives #1-12, and Jill Thompson’s The Dead Boy Detectives; a chapter from Free Country: A Tale of the Children’s Crusade; stories from Vertigo: Winter’s Edge #3, Ghosts #1, Time Warp #1, and The Witching Hour #1; and pages from Death: At Death’s Door, Swamp Thing Annual #7, and Doom Patrol Annual #2. The comics were written by Gaiman, Toby Litt, Mark Buckingham, Jill Thompson, Ed Brubaker, and others, and the artists include Buckingham, Thompson, Bryan Talbot, and Chris Bachalo. The omnibus will have a new cover by Bachalo and a new introduction by Buckingham. MSRP is $100.00.
