Kodansha has launched its digital manga service, which offers 400 titles, including such blockbusters as Attack on Titan, Toky Revengers, and Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro, as well as new chapters of 60 different series that are being released simultaneously with Japan.

Currently, the service consists of apps for Android and iOS, with a web service to follow.

The Android and iOS apps allow readers to read manga chapter by chapter. The first three chapters of every volume are free, and other chapters can be accessed with points that the user purchases in the app. Points cost $.01 apiece and chapters typically cost 69 or 99 points. Users can also earn free tickets, which unlock a chapter for three days, by performing basic tasks such as reading a chapter of a specified manga, watching a video, or engaging with third-party advertisers.

As a launch promotion, K Manga is offering three series, Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, and Tokyo Revengers in their entirety for free, although some free chapters have to be unlocked with tickets. The app’s Terms of Use also refer to a “Points Subscription Service” which will be implemented on the web at a later date. This is described as a service that allots the reader additional points if they pay a monthly fee and does not appear to be an unlimited-reading subscription such as Shonen Jump and the new VIZ Manga app (see “VIZ Launches New Manga Subscription Service”).
