Star Reach Games’ new board game, Cysmic, is now on Kickstarter, having already raised over $49,000 from its $74,500 goal. With 29 days left to go, the campaign ends on May 26, and fans of sci-fi strategy games are eagerly anticipating its release.
Cysmic takes place on the dying surface of Kepler-62e, where players take on the role of a faction commander, leading their forces in a battle for survival against the seismic events that threaten to destroy the planet. With an infinite, dual-layered game board, over 200 miniatures in the Deluxe Edition, and no-holds-barred combat, players must gather resources, capture enemy units, and construct their Colony Ship before blasting off to escape the world-ending chaos.
Combat is crucial in Cysmic, with each opponent holding a critical piece of blueprint knowledge needed to build the Colony Ship. By winning combats and securing hostages, players can trade for the necessary technology to build their ship. However, certain actions, including combat, can also cause tremors that lead to massive seismic activity, tearing apart the very landscape of the game board.
Cysmic’s gameplay is designed to be easy to learn, with each turn consisting of just three simple steps: burn a card, play a card, and choose a bonus action. As players cleverly utilize their key support units, they can gather Influence and Crystal Ore to keep their war machine going and put their newfound knowledge into action as they construct their modules.
But building the Colony Ship is only half the battle. Players must also make a decision when it’s time to launch, as they can’t just leave all their units behind. Rolling the Humanity Die to see if their conscience will allow them to leave their units behind, players must decide whether the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
Cysmic is an intense, fast-paced game that rewards strategic thinking and quick decision-making. With no points and no second prizes, when you play a game of Cysmic, you win, or you die! The Kickstarter campaign for Cysmic is still open, so be sure to check it out before it’s too late.
