ICv2 Exclusive: Dark Horse Partners with Tapas to Publish Webtoons

Dark Horse Books has inked a deal with Tapas Entertainment to publish four webtoons that currently run on the site as print graphic novels.  Dark Horse will publish the first volumes as trade paperbacks in October 2023, with one new series launching each week. Here’s a look at the four titles.

Animalheads, by writer Son M and artist Sam Curtis, is a thriller about four young adults whose job prospects do not meet their family’s expectations, forcing them to get creative.  So they turn to crime, starting with small jobs but eventually getting pulled intothe criminal underworld.  The Tapas Original series has 22,500 subscribers, and the 34 episodes up so far have racked up 250,000 views.  Dark Horse will release the first print volume on October 10 in bookstores, October 11 in comic shops, with an MSRP of $29.99.

Signals, by Nika, is a mystery/suspense series about an investigator who brings something extra to her work: She can read minds.  The webtoon has 23,000 subscribers and 486,000 views across 70 episodes.  The first print volume is slated for October 17 in bookstores, October 18 in comic shops, with an MSRP of $24.99.

The Flying Ship, by Jem Milton, is a YA LGBT+ story about romance and friendships set in a magical world where an adventurer with a flying ship is determined to marry a princess.  On Tapas, the series has about 27,000 subscribers and 3.3 million views of 335 episodes.  The first volume will be released on October 24 in bookstores, October 25 in comic shops, with an MRSP of $24.99.

Tomahawk Angel, by Odysseas Theodoratos (a.k.a. MangakaOdy), is set in the year 2050 and follows an 18-year-old amnesiac who wakes up in a monster-filled,post-apocalyptic world where an evil scientist is intent on wiping out most of humanity.  A Tapas Original series, it is drawn with a manga-inspired style and format and has 5,800 subscribers and over 125,000 views of its 58 episodes.  The first volume of this series is slated for October 31 in bookstores, November 1 in comic shops, with an MSRP of $14.99.
