Magic Mike’s Last Dance wins a slow weekend box office

Magic Mike's Last Dance

Magic Mike still has some moves left as the film took the top spot at the weekend box office. Magic Mike’s Last Dance, the third film in the series, earned an estimated $8.2 million domestically and $10.4 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $18.6 million.

It’s a rough opening compared to the original which earned $39.1 million in 2012 (going on to earn $167.3 million worldwide) and below the sequel’s $12.9 million opening in 2015 (it went on to earn $117.8 million worldwide). Unless there’s a big boost, the film may struggle to make it to $100 million based on the performance of previous films.

Avatar: The Way of Water came in second place with an estimated $6.9 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $646.9 million. Over the week, it grossed about $28 million internationally to lift that to $1.566. The film has now grossed $2.213 billion. It is still #10 for domestic gross with about $6.1 million to go to move up a spot. Worldwide, the film is in fourth place, about $3.9 million behind the third place Titanic. With a release of that film, and if it counts towards the previous total, it’s hard to say when it’ll pass it, but it likely will.

Speaking of Titanic… the 25th anniversary release came in third with an estimated $6.4 million. The film also grossed $15.9 million internationally to deliver a $22.3 million gross so far.

80 for Brady slipped to fourth from second with an estimated $6 million to bring its domestic total to just under $25 million. There’s still no international gross.

Knock at the Cabin dipped a little over 61% from the previous weekend going from first to fifth. The film added about $5.5 million to its domestic total to bring that to $23.4 million. Over the week, the film added about $6.3 million to its total to bring that to $13.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $36.8 million after two weeks.

In comic film news…

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Scarlet Bond looks like it didn’t make any gains and the domestic total is steady at $1.6 million. Internationally, it gained about $100,000 to increase it to $9.8 million. The worldwide total is a bit over $11.4 million.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever held at #17 and grossed $75,000 to bring its domestic total to $453.6 million. Internationally, the film added about $300,000 over the week to bring that to $389.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed over $842.9 million.

Black Adam‘s domestic gross looks like it hasn’t shifted and stands at $168.2 million. Over the week the international remained steady at $224.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed just under $393 million.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time looks to have ended its run. Domestically, it has grossed $810,744. Internationally, the film gained a little and is now just under $93 million for a worldwide gross of $93.8 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Numbers have 28 films earning $49,444,277 from 31,917 theaters. That’s a massive drop from last weekend’s $81,330,333 from 40,930 theaters and 58 films. The average earning was $1,549.15 this past weekend, about 25% less than the previous weekend’s $1,987.06.
