More BATs. More!!
The subteams of the vintage era allowed for reuse of molds, a trend that is carrying over into the Classifieds line. Opinions on such things as Tiger Force and Python Patrol seem to be divided based on aesthetic appeal, but…pfftblah to that. I have personally always been a fan. I welcome each and every one.
BAT was not part of the original Python Patrol era, but he is now, ditching the traditional black uniform with silver arms for a far different color scheme. It’s not subtle, but I like it.
I like it a lot.
Mainly I like that it pretty aggressively goes out of its way to be different fromnthe regular BAT. The yellows are not subdued, and that burgundy shirt doesn’t fade into the background. The Python Patrol colors are very in your face and this is no exception.
I’ve previously covered the original BAT figure (here) so I won’t rehash everything about the same exact body. It’s your standard Classified articulation scheme, and it works well. Whether or not you have hip issues seems to be a case-by-case basis, but mine were surprisingly fine, with no need for heat or shock oil.
The differences between the original BAT and this one are primarily in the color scheme and the accessories. As big a fan as I am of the original black/yellow/silver colors, I admit that I dig the very different paint of this one. I like the black metal arms quite a bit, and the red on the faceplate hits my cartoon nostalgia buttons pretty hard. The heads are swappable, so if you don’t mind that little touch of yellow you can have a regular BAT with a cartoon-styled red faceplate.
This BAT comes with the same alternate hands—claw, laser and flamethrower—and they can all be swapped onto either hand, allowing for a variety of options. Despite the fact that I technically don’t have to, I have it written into my vintage-loving genes that the right hand is the swappable one. It’s hard to break a decade old habit.
The PP BAT does come with a chestplate to cover up the exposed gears, just like the regular BAT. This one features the Python Patrol logo on it. Again, I don’t have an issue with it, but I like to keep the inner workings exposed. I know there are options out there from customizers to have a clear plate, but I wish all of the BATS had come with one as a standard feature, because that’s the only type of covering I think I’d use.
This version of the Bat does not come with the battle-damaged head or chestplate that the original came with, so you do get slightly less for your money than last time. It is kind of odd not to at least include the battle-damaged head, but such is the way of things, I guess.
It doesn’t take much to sell me on another BAT, so this was a no-brainer. I ordered him from both Target and Hasbro Pulse, and Target canceled out of the blue (without any of those “do you want to keep your order” emails that so many were getting), so luckily Pulse came through for me.
I ended up with six of the regular BATs, but I don’t feel the need to have quite so many of this one. Maybe two.
Yeah, two sounds good for now.
