Funforge to Release ‘Tokaido Duo’

Funforge will be releasing Tokaido Duo, an all-new two-player game about pilgrimages in Japan designed by Tokaido’s creator Antoine Bauza, later this month.

Similar to 2012’s original Tokaido, the new Tokaido Duo invites players to travel through Japan, exploring the island of Shikoku and visiting interesting locations along the way such as temples, gardens, and hot springs.  But the new game is completely independent from the original and features all-new game mechanics specifically designed for the two-player experience.  Now, players will guide a trio of characters: a pilgrim seeking religious and spiritual sites, a merchant looking for economic opportunities, and an artist who hopes to capture the beauty of the landscape.  By optimizing each traveler’s journeys, players earn points, and trigger the end of the game by completing a character’s travels.

Tokaido Duo will feature artwork by the original Tokaido artist Naiade.  It comes with 1 game board, 6 character boards, 6 meeples, 35 tokens, 23 tiles, 4 pegs, 30 coins, 12 gold slabs, 1 cloth bag, and 3 custom dice.  The game is for 2 players, recommended for ages 8 and up, and plays in about 20 minutes.

Later this month, Funforge will release Tokaido’s follow-up game Namiji into the trade (see “‘Tokaido’ Sequel ‘Namiji’”).  Earlier this autumn, the company launched a new Deluxe Edition of the game (see “Asmodee Will Release ‘Tokaido Deluxe Edition’”).
