Wizards of Coast Launches ‘Magic: The Gathering’ ‘Secret Lair’ October 2022 Superdrop

Features Junji Ito Set, Post Malone Sets, ‘Warhammer’ Sets, and More for DTC Preorder

Wizards of the Coast revealed its October 2022 Superdrop, the next wave of Secret Lair sets for Magic: The Gathering, which is currently on direct-to-consumer preorder.

WotC fires up the printing presses again for another round of Secret Lair sets in 2022. The sets offered in this wave expand on the Warhammer and Unfinity themes from recent October sets. There are also two Post Malone-inspired sets and a special guest set for Junji Ito, the famed horror manga creator (see “Top Manga Franchises – Spring 2022”).

The following sets will be offered in the October 2022 Superdrop:

  • Secret Lair X Post Malone: Backstage Pass (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): This set is one of two collaborations Secret Lairs with hip-hop artist Post Malone. It comes with a K’rrik, Son of Yawgmoth as “Post, Son of Rich,” a Bolas’s Citadel as “Post’s Citadel,” a Leshrac’s Sigil as “Post’s Sigil,” and a Jet Medallion.
  • Secret Lair X Post Malone: The Lands (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): This set is one of two collaborations Secret Lairs with hip-hop artist Post Malone that features Post-inspired basic lands. The set comes with 1x Retro Frame Plains, a Retro Frame Island, a Retro Frame Swamp, a Retro Frame Mountain, and a Retro Frame Forest.
  • Secret Lair x Warhammer 40,000: Orks (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): The Ork-inspired set comes with a Borderless Merciless Executioner as “Ork Kommando,” a Borderless Aggravated Assault, a Borderless Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin as “Makari the Lucky Grot,” a Borderless Zurgo Helmsmasher as “Ghazghkull, Prophet of the Waaagh!,” and a Borderless Skysovereign, Consul Flagship as “Da Vulcha” 
  • Secret Lair x Warhammer Age of Sigmar (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): Players can conquer the Mortal Realms with a Borderless Blind Obedience, a Borderless Danitha Capashen, Paragon as “Neave Blacktalon,” a Borderless Najeela, the Blade-Blossom as “Archaeon the Everchosen,” a Borderless Scourge of the Throne as “Stardrake,” and a Borderless Loxodon Warhammer as “Ghal Maraz, the Great Shatterer.” 
  • Secret Lair x Blood Bowl (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): Magic players can hit the pitch with a Borderless Approach of the Second Sun as “Touchdown!,” a Borderless Rewind as “Re-Roll,” a Borderless Bone Splinters as “Both Down,” a Borderless Fling as “Throw Team-Mate,” a Borderless Defense of the Heart as “Perfect Defense,” and a Borderless Fellwar Stone as “The Ball.” 
  • If Looks Could Kill (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): This set showcases the work of illustrator Jack Hughes. It includes a Borderless Azami, Lady of Scrolls, a Borderless Liliana of the Dark Realms, a Borderless Reflector Mage, and a Borderless Adaptive Automaton.
  • Special Guest: Junji Ito (MSRP $29.99; Foil Etched $39.99; Japanese $29.99; Japanese Foil Etched $39.99): Junji Ito is a master at creating horror Manga. His set comes in either English or Japanese language versions and features a Borderless Carrion Feeder, a Borderless Doomsday, a Borderless Plaguecrafter, and a Borderless Thoughtseize.
  • Special Guest: Yoji Shinikawa (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99; Japanese $29.99; Japanese Foil $39.99): The Metal Gear artist returns to Magic for this Secret Lair. It comes with a Borderless Tezzeret the Seeker, a Borderless Phyrexian Metamorph, a Borderless Skullclamp, and a Borderless Solemn Simulacrum. The set is available in either English or Japanese language versions.
  • The Space Beyond the Stars (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): This Unfinity-themed set comes with a Borderless Imprisoned in the Moon, a Borderless Stasis, a Borderless Prismatic Omen, and a Borderless Wheel of Sun and Moon.
  • Totally Spaced Out Galaxy Foil Edition (Foil $39.99): This is another Unfinity-themed set that comes with a Galaxy Foil Ash Barrens, a Galaxy Foil Command Beacon,a Galaxy Foil Fabled Passage, and a Galaxy Foil Strip Mine.
  • Weirdest Pets in the Multiverse (MSRP $29.99; Foil $39.99): Omar Rayyan illustrates some of the strangest pets in the Multiverse for this set. This set contains a Borderless Laboratory Maniac, a Borderless Stitcher’s Supplier, a Borderless Beast Whisperer, a Borderless Vizier of the Menagerie, and a Borderless Wood Elves.

This drop also can be purchased in four different bundles. The Post Malone Bundle comes with one of each of the Post Malone-themed sets for $108.99, and the Warhammer Bundle comes with one of each of the Warhammer-themed sets for $168.99. The will also be a Big Foil Bundle that contains all the non-Post Malone, non-Warhammer themed sets foil sets in the drop for $258.99 as well as a Big Non-Foil Bundle with all on non-Post Malone, non-Warhammer themed non-foil sets for $168.99.
