Paul Levitz to Write ‘Avengers: War Across Time’

Former DC Comics  President and Publisher Paul Levitz is writing his first Marvel Comics’ title, over a decade after he left his post at Marvel’s biggest competitor.

Levitz and artist Alan Davis are teaming up for Avengers: War Across Time, a five-issue limited series set during the original 1963 run of the Avengers comic and featuring the original lineup of Captain America, Giant Man, Iron Man, Thor, and the Wasp battling the Hulk and Kang the Conqueror. The series will be released on January 11, 2023, with cover art by Davis, and will kick off Marvel’s 60th anniversary celebrations for the superhero team, which was created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Don Heck and debuted in September 1963.

“I learned much of my writing craft from The Avengers, and it’s been a delight to pay homage to my old friends Stan, Jack and Don by trying to do something that might have been an extended issue #11.1,” Levitz said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “We’ve been cooking this up for a long time, and I hope readers have as much fun with it as I did.”

Levitz began working at DC as a freelancer in 1972 and left in 2009, although he continued to be a writer, contributing editor, and consultant for the publisher (see “Paul Levitz’s Incredible 36 Years at DC”).
