Tom Palmer Sr., best-known as a masterful inker on some of the best comic artists of a generation, passed away on Thursday, August 18, according to a post on his Facebook page. He was 81.
Palmer’s best work may have been as inker on pencil art by Gene Colan (see “R.I.P. Gene Colan”), with whom he was paired for runs on Doctor Strange, Daredevil, and Tomb of Dracula.
Other Palmer inks on top pencillers included stretches inking Neal Adams on The Avengers and Uncanny X-Men, John Buscema on The Avengers, John Byrne on X-Men: The Hidden Years, and John Romita, Jr. on Kick-Ass.
Palmer also contributed pencil art and paintings for comics, and had a distinguished career producing illustrations and paintings for advertising for major brands.
Our condolences to Palmer Sr.’s family and friends.
