IDW has announced it will follow up its Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin with a new five-issue limited series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin—The Lost Years, co-written by Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz with art by SL Gallant and Ben Bishop. The series, which will feature new series set in the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, will launch in November, and the first issue will have three covers, Cover A by Kevin Eastman and Ben Bishop, Cover B by SL Gallant, and a retailer incentive edition by Mike Deodato.
“TMNT: The Last Ronin–The Lost Years represents the first expansion of what we now fondly call the ‘Ronin-verse,’” Waltz said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It offers our many loyal readers a much more detailed look at the Ronin’s past, as well as sharing a glimpse of an exciting future for the many allies he’s been forced to leave behind.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin was a best-seller for IDW, with over 840,000 copies of the five issues in print (see “Second Printing Brings ‘TMNT: The Last Ronin’ to 180,000”). In its annual report, IDW cited sales of the series as one factor in its increased profits for the year (see “IDW’s Q4 and Annual Reports Reveal More About Recent Events”), and the hardcover collection was one of ComicHub’s top-selling graphic novels of June 2022, in both unit and dollar sales (see “Top 20 Graphic Novels – June 2022”), despite the fact that the book’s official release date was July 5 (see “‘TMNT: The Last Ronin’ Delayed Due to Supply Chain Issues”).
