Fantagraphics and Sunday Press have entered into a partnership deal that will involve both distribution and publishing. Fantagraphics will distribute Sunday Press’s backlist, starting this month, and in 2023, Fantagraphics will begin publishing new titles under the Sunday Press imprint.
Fantagraphics is distributed by W.W. Norton to the book channel and Diamond to the direct market, and both distributors will carry the Sunday Press books; the books are also available for direct purchase on the Fantagraphics website. In addition, Fantagraphics will host Sunday Press at their booth at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
Sunday Press was founded by Peter Maresca in 2005 to publish a full-size reprint of Winsor McCay’s Little Nemo comics, Little Nemo in Slumberland: So Many Splendid Sundays. The small publisher specializes in high-quality, full-sized reproductions of classic newspaper strips and its books have won several Eisner and Harvey awards. Fantagraphics also publishes collections of classic strips.
“I’ve admired Peter’s publishing efforts from afar for years, and now I’ll be able to admire them up close,” said Fantagraphics Publisher Gary Groth. “He’s that rare publisher of integrity where taste and conscientious execution combine to create a singularly beautiful work. Our aesthetic sensibilities complement each other and I look forward to working with him to publish his scrupulously edited and designed books.”
Sunday Press announced a similar partnership with IDW Publishing (see “Sunday Press Books Now Under the IDW Umbrella”) in 2019.
