New Edition of ‘Warcry’ Announced

Games Workshop has announced the second edition of its Warcry fantasy skirmish miniatures game, which will appear first in the upcoming Heart of Ghur boxed starter set.

Warcry is set in the same world as Warhammer Age of Sigmar, but designed for battles with fewer combatants, with a focus on fights between “warbands” of warriors fighting in the name of Chaos (see “More ‘Warcry’ Details, More ‘Age of Sigmar,’ Bigger ‘40,000’ Battles”).  It was recognized by the Origins Awards as the “Best Miniatures Game” for 2020 (see “Origins Awards 2020 Winners Unveiled”).

This summer, Games Workshop announced that the game will be updated with a new edition, starting with the Heart of Ghur starter set, which will also introduce two new factions to the game:  the Horns of Hashut and the Rotmire Creed.  The boxed set will include a hardcover copy of the Warcry Core Book, which will feature the updated rules set as well as guidelines for playing in the Realm of Beasts.

In addition to the new rules, Heart of Ghur will offer two complete warbands with a total of 20 new miniatures and a mini-battletome called Rot and Ruin with the rules needed to play them.  Terrain pieces to recreate the twisted “meat trees” of the Gnarlwood, a 30-inch by 22-inch playing surface, over 100 cards, tokens, dice, and a ruler round out the set.

Release date and MSRP have not been announced as of this writing.

Earlier this year, Games Workshop released the Tome of Champions sourcebook for Warcry, which allowed players to use warbands from Warhammer Underworlds in Warcry (see “Games Workhop Preview ‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar Warcry:  Tome of Champions 2021’”).

Last month, the company offered new boxed sets for Warhammer Age of Sigmar (see “Games Workshop Reveals Three ‘Warhammer Age of Sigmar:  Vanguard’ Boxed Sets”) and a new edition of The Horus Heresy (see “Games Workshop Previews ‘Warhammer:  The Horus Heresy – Age of Darkness”).  A new line of paint was also announced (see “Games Workshop Reveals New Contrasts and Shades for Their ‘Citadel Colour’ Paint Line”).
