Butts and bananas won the weekend box office as Minions: The Rise of Gru destroyed the competition. The film earned an estimated $108.5 million over the three day weekend domestically and is expected to top $128 million over the four day weekend. Internationally, the film grossed an estimated $93.7 million for a worldwide debut weekend of $202.2 million.
Top Gun: Maverick held on to second place with an estimated $25.5 million, a small 13.7% drop from the previous weekend. The film has earned $564 million after six weeks at the box office. Over the week, the film grossed around $59.8 million at the international box office to bring that to $544.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.109 billion, absolutely breaking the sound barrier.
Elvis dropped 39.1% taking it from first to third and earning an estimated $19 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $67.3 million. Over the week, it grossed around $26.2 million to bring that total to $46.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $113.5 million.
Jurassic World Dominion held on to third place with an estimated $15.7 million to bring its domestic total to $331.8 million. Internationally, the film grossed around $48.8 million over the week to bring that to $492.7 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $824.5 million.
Rounding out the top five was The Black Phone which slipped one spot. It earned an estimated $12.3 million to bring it to $47.5 million. Internationally, it earned about $14.4 million over the week to bring that to just under $27 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $74.4 million.
In comic film news…
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came in ninth place earning $390,000 and bringing its domestic total to $410.5 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $3 million over the week to bring that to $540.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $951.4 million. The film is inching towards $1 billion, will it cross the line? It doesn’t look like it’ll have enough juice to get there.
Morbius is finally staked at the box office. The film’s domestic gross is $73.9 million. Internationally, the film remained steady with $90 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $163.9 million (about a trillion Morbinbucks).
Initial numbers has 26 films earning $190,952.334 from 28,107 theaters. That’s almost 50% more than last weekend’s 51 films which earned $134,591,010 from 26,066 theaters. It’s another strong weekend for 2022. The average earning was $6,793.76 this past weekend, an increase from the previous weekend’s $5,163.47.
