I’ve always liked Boba Fett for his design, but episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett made me love the character. I’m a bigger fan than I ever was and I’m in for every slight variation of Fett I can get my hands on. Hasbro looks to be willing to give me those variants, so let’s take a look at Throne Room Boba Fett!
This variant has The Book of Boba Fett colors on the box (I love that it’s a very Fett green, btw), but I think he’s really more from his appearance in episodes of The Mandalorian after he repaints his armor. In the Book of Boba Fett, his costume is slightly different again with red boot, tighter pants, and short little butt flap cape.
Fett comes with a removeable helmet, jetpack, rifle, and pistol. At first glance, I would have thought the rifle was the same as the recent deluxe Boba Fett figure’s rifle, but it is slightly different in the show, so it is slightly different here. The gun is cast in a fairly stiff gray plastic that holds detail well and has a little bit of paint on the stock. It fits good in the hand and Fett can hit the requisite rifle wielding poses with it.
The pistol is the same one that comes with the recent Tython Fett, though that one had a nice metallic paint job and this is also cast in a gray plastic. The gun fits well in the hand and the holster.
The pack looks like a repaint of that deluxe Fett pack (you can swap between figures) and has the removeable rocket and swivel jets. The rocket and flamethrower effects from the deluxe Boba also work with this figure. The figure has a soft chest overlay, so you do have to really shove that pack peg in there to get it to catch fully.
The helmet is removeable and I like the look of it from the front, but from the side it looks a little long to me. The top is a little flatter than it should be and you can sometimes see his bare neck under there, so I do wish they would make swappable dedicated helmet head/neck and unmasked head and neck.
The sculpting is good overall and I can see Temuera in the likeness, though the head shape feels a little too short and round. The face print is good and while they did add a bit of that shiny paint around some of the scars on his face that I don’t love, it’s much more subtle here than on the Tython figure. I feel like a bit of beard stubble would have been a good addition.
Fett has the following articulation:
- Swivel/hinge shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles
- Swivel thighs, forearms, booster rockets, and boots
- Ball and socket head, neck, and waist
- Hinged butterfly pecs
Articulation is good with very impressive tilt at the head and waist ball and socket joint. The helmet does interact with the collar to impede some of that nice movement. The knees are bit weird looking, but very functional for such a bulky design, though the “shelf” over the knee joint itself can look a little odd in the seated position. I’m impressed at how flexible the holster and the plastic flaps that hang down over his right leg are and how well they stay out of the way during posing.
The paint is solid, but Fett could always use a little bit more nicks and scratches on the armor pieces. The yellow shoulder pad here seem way too clean and bright and could use some chips and a slight wash and also some detail hits like his knee darts. This Fett has the cleanest armor we probably ever see, but the rudimentary paint job does really make me question why this is at the deluxe price point.
Overall I really like this figure. The poseability is solid and he just looks sharp. My main issue is that he comes at the higher price point and I can’t really see the extra value over a mainline figure. Just one year ago, I got the deluxe Fett with a more complicated paint job and extra blast effects and a grappling hook and even that felt like a bit of a gouge. This one re-uses a bunch of parts from the Tython Fett, so I really don’t get the higher cost. I don’t pretend to be an economics expert, but this figure reminds me of the old econ lesson that the price of goods is whatever the market will bear. I just get the feeling from this one that they are upcharging because they can since Fett is cool and popular.
