Skybound has announced a five-issue Creepshow limited series, which will be published by Image Comics starting in September. The new comic series is based on the Creepshow anthology series that runs on the streaming platform Shudder TV, and producer Greg Nicotero’s Monster Agency Productions will oversee the production of the comics.
Each issue of the new series will feature a standalone story by a different creative team, drawn from the worlds of comics, film, and television. The creators include Chris Burnham, Paul Dini, Steve Langford (a writer for the Creepshow TV series), Josh Malerman (another Creepshow writer), David and Maria Lapham, Steve Foxe, John McCrea, and Kelley Jones. The first issue will have a cover by Burnham and will be released on September 21.
The original Creepshow was a 1982 film directed by George Romero and written by Stephen King that was an homage to the old EC horror comics, with five different horror stories and an assortment of creepy special effects. The film was adapted into a comic by King and artist Bernie Wrightson in 1982 and was reprinted in a new edition in 2017 by Simon & Schuster’s graphic novel imprint Gallery 13 (see “Simon & Schuster Unveils New Graphic Novel Imprint”). The Shudder TV series is framed as a continuation of the film.
