It shouldn’t be a surprise but Top Gun: Maverick was the top of the weekend box office earning $124 million over three days. The film set a record with over $151 million over the Memorial Day weekend. The delayed film found its audience and earned an additional $109.6 million overseas. That lands the film with $260.6 million already after one weekend.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness slipped to second place with an estimated $16.4 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $370.8 million. Over the week, it added $36.8 million internationally, to bring that to $497.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $873.4 million. Will the film be able to cross the $1 billion mark before it’s done?
The Bob’s Burgers Movie debuted in third place with $12.6 million in its first weekend. The film has grossed $15 million so far. Internationally, things were a bit less with just $7,000. That puts the film a little over $15 million after 1 week.
Downton Abbey: A New Era slipped to fourth place with an estimated $5.9 million to bring its domestic gross to $30.1 million. The film earned about $4.8 million over the week internationally to bring that to $40.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $70.6 million.
The Bad Guys added about $4.6 million to its domestic total which now stands at $82.9 million. Over the week, the film earned about $8.4 million internationally to bring that to $116.2 million. The film has grossed $199.1 million so far in its run.
In comic film news…
Morbius looks like its domestic run is winding down. It earned just $170,00 over the week to bring its domestic gross to $73.3 million. Internationally, the film looks like it remained steady with $90 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $163.3 million (about a trillion Morbinbucks).
The Batman earned a little domestically, about $100,000. It’s total is now $369.3 million. Over the week, the movie earned about $700,000 internationally to bring that total to $399.9 million. The film currently stands at $769.2 million.
Initial numbers have 24 films earning $174,880,395 from 29,920 theaters. That’s over double last weekend’s 48 films which earned $75,614,309 from 31,704 theaters. It’s one of the strongest weekends so far in 2022. The average earning was $5,844.93 this past weekend, over double the previous weekend’s $2,385.01.
