The Madballs and the Garbage Pail Kids will go head-to-head in a new comic series from Dynamite Entertainment this summer. Madballs vs. Garbage Pail Kids will kick off in July with a story written by Sholly Fisch (Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes), and art by Jason Crosby, who draws the Garbage Pail Kids trading cards for Topps. The first issue will feature collectible variant covers by Crosby and longtime Garbage Pail Kids artist Joe Simko, and Simko has also teamed up with James Groman, one of the original Madballs artists, to create a wraparound cover.
Fisch declined to say which side will emerge victorious in the crossover battle. “Let’s just say that, no matter which side you’re on, you’ll find stuff to make you laugh,” he said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “And, if you’re not careful, you may get splattered with slime or toxic waste, too.”
“I try to have my work full of energy, movement, and splattered goop, so honestly, drawing these two franchises is right up my alley,” added artist Jason Crosby. “My work isn’t subtle, and I hope it explodes off the page.”
While this is the first comic series based on the crossover, the properties were offered as a joint license over a year ago (see “80s Gross-Out Brands in Licensing Crossover”).
